CCSA Announces Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College of Charleston’s Randy Buchanan and teammate Peter Gibbons have been named the CCSA Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for meets competed Nov. 16-22, it was announced today by the League.

 

Buchanan, a senior from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., recorded two first place finishes and a runner-up performance for College of Charleston in last weekend’s prestigious Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C.  Buchanan earned a pair of NCAA Automatic Cuts with a time of 1:48.87 in the 200 yard individual medley and a mark of 55.08 in the 100 yard breaststroke.  His 100 yard breaststroke time set the meet record.  Buchanan nearly recorded a third victory, finishing one tenth of a second off the pace in the 200 yard breast (2:01.16).  This is Buchanan’s third Swimmer of the Week plaudit of the season. 

 

Gibbons, a freshman from Fairfax, Va., continued his great rookie campaign last weekend posting season bests off the 1- and 3-meter boards for the Cougars at the Gamecock Invitational.  He finished 10th in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 261.10, besting his previous career high by 25.90 points.  Gibbons followed that up with an 11th place finish in the 3-meter dive with a score of 224.45.  Gibbons’ fourth consecutive Diver of the Week honor is a CCSA record.
