Davidson Women Win Dual Meet with Coll. of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Wildcat women defeated the College of Charleston Cougars, 151-89, picking up their first dual-meet victory of the season over their CCSA foe, while the Cougar men just edged the Wildcats, 124-112.

"Both teams responded well to the challenge presented by consecutive home and away meets," Young said. "We still have work to do, but we've demonstrated a good level of conditioning and are ready to focus more of our attention on the details that will enable successes as we approach championship meet time."

Coming back after swimming a dual meet against William & Mary Friday evening at Cannon Natatorium, the Wildcat women picked up their first win of the season behind seven individual titles.

"This was a nice win for the women today," head coach John Young said. "We challenged the team to demonstrate some versatility, and they responded with an array of well competed races."

Junior
Lindsey Martin was a double winner for the Wildcat women, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:57.15 and the 400 free with a time of 4:33.92.

Junior
Jessica Delgehausen was also an individual winner, winning the 100 free with a time of 1:01.20, and classmate Emily Castle finished first in the 50 free in 27.74.

In the diving competition, senior
Linnea Buttermore won the 1-meter event with a score of 237.53 and finished second to teammate Kelsey Chisholm in the 3-meter. Chisholm won the 3-meter with a score of 227.33.

Sophomore
Lauren Kamperman was the final individual winner for the Wildcat women, placing first in the 200 back with a time of 2:29.67.

"We knew the men would need to make up a deficit from the diving competition, and they nearly did so," Young said.

 

The Wildcats will return to action, hosting NC State at Cannon Natatorium on Saturday in a noon dual meet.

 

Campbell Falls at NC State Meet

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell's swim team (3-7) was downed by both N.C. State and Richmond in the team's dual meet in Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 31. The Camels fell to N.C. State by a 217-60 margin. The team lost to Richmond 201.5 to 56.5.

Campbell's highest finished of the afternoon was the third-place swim by sophomore Emily Michael in the 200-IM (2:20.97).

Michael also set a season best (2:35.01) in finished sixth in the 200-breast.

CU's 200-freestyle relay team also had a top three finishes in their event. The Camels group of senior Kara Gerdeman, freshman Kaitlyn Tunstall, senior Jackie Kenline and junior Ashlyn Stumpf swam a 1:42.67. The time was a season best for the group. Campbell's second team entered in the event of freshman Magda Kedracka, senior Mary Beth Dellinger, junior Kelly Mullican and freshman Devin Dorough also swam their best time of the season, a 1:48:24, to place fourth.

Mullican also swam a season-best time of 1:03.30 to finish seventh in the 100-back.

Next, Campbell's swimming program has a pair of meets on the slate next week starting with Georgia Southern on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. in Georgia. CU then goes down the road to take on North Florida on Saturday, Nov. 7 at noon.

 

Personal Bests and Record Breaking Performances Highlight Radford’s Dual Meet Against James Madison

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford University swimming and diving team recorded seven personal bests and two new school records as they fell to James Madison, 173-110 Saturday afternoon at the Dedmon Center Natatorium.

With the loss the Highlanders fall to 0-3 on the year, while the Dukes improve to 3-0.

Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) continues her assault on the records books, breaking both her previous records on the one and three-meter boards.  Shaffer shattered her one-meter record by 57 points with a score of 259.35.  She then took aim at her three-meter record which she broke by 22 points with a score of 256.87.

The first event of the day was the 200-yard medley relay, which saw the Highlanders place fourth and sixth respectively.  Sophomore Whitney Friend (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) posted a personal best in the backstroke leg of the relay with a time of 27.81. 

Kristi Freund (Newnan, Ga./Northgate), Mandy Smith (Annandale, Va./Falls Church), Kaitlyn Baker (Winchester, Va./James Woods), Kathryn Ruch (Midlothian, Va./Cosby) and Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical) each recorded a personal best.  Freund captured two, one in the 100-yard butterfly while the other was in the 200-yard butterfly. Turner also tallied a personal best in the 100-yard butterfly as well.  Baker recorded a personal best in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:52.70 while Ruch and Smith posted personal bests in the 200 and 500 freestyle, respectively.

The Highlanders will back in action Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. when they host Marshall and Campbell.

 

VMI Trip to N.J. Highlighted by Win over NJIT

NEWARK, N.J.- The VMI women’s swimming and diving team competed in a pair of events last weekend, with the four duals highlighted by a 44-43 win over host NJIT on Friday evening.
