North Florida 133, Campbell 66 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida swimming and diving team hosted its first home meet of the season and came away with a 133-66 victory over Campbell at the UNF Aquatic Center on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The Ospreys won eight of the first nine swimming events to take a commanding lead. In addition, UNF won both diving events and exhibitioned the final two swimming events.
“Campbell came in and did a really good job,” head coach Beth Harrell commented after the meet. “They swam Georgia Southern yesterday. We knew they would be pretty good competition. Our girls swam really well. We got an opportunity to put some different people in some different events to see how they would step up in preparation for our meet against Florida Gulf Coast. This was first time we got everyone swimming. It was fun and it was great to see how they all competed.”
North Florida was led by sophomore Amanda Anderson and juniors Caroline Larsson and Lyn Ann Nelson.
Anderson posted a pair of victories in individual events and recorded the fastest split time in the 400-yard medley relay. She picked up victories in the 200 individual medley (2:11.89) and in the 200 backstroke (2:11.35). Anderson’s time in the 200 IM was just ahead of freshman Sara Evans, who finished in second, and sophomore Taylor Crosby, who claimed third. In the 200 backstroke, Anderson just outreached senior Emily Shaw who finished in second place one-hundredth of a second behind Anderson.
Larsson won a pair of events on the afternoon. She picked up a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (10:41.30), winning the event by over eight seconds (8.19). Larsson also won the 500 free with a time of 5:11.06. Her time in the 500 free was 3.02 seconds faster than junior Megan Boudreau who finished the event in second.
Nelson collected a pair of victories on the afternoon. She posted a time of 1:54.87 in the 200 freestyle to win the event. Nelson finished the 200 free ahead of junior Kalia Martin and freshman Kirsten Orndorff who finished second and third, respectively. The junior also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.19, nearly two seconds (1.83) faster than the second place finisher.
True freshman Julia Moomaw picked up a pair of victories in the diving events. The Orlando native scored 166.80 in the one-meter dive and 165.90 on the three-meter board.
Freshmen Katie England, Sara Evans and Ashten Crosby posted times in the 200 breaststroke good enough for first, second and third, respectively, but were each exhibitioned with UNF’s overall victory secured.
In the final event of the afternoon, also exhibitioned, the Ospreys’ 200 freestyle relay team of freshman Kelsey Bobzien, Shaw, Martin and Nelson posted a time of 1:41.20, which was good enough to claim the event by over a second (1.17).
“We are now moving forward to Florida Gulf Coast,” said Harrell. “That will be a tough one. They are a great team. There will be a lot of preparation between now and then and this meet was part of that preparation. We will look to add on to this. It is nice to have a win.”
North Florida returns to the UNF Aquatic Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11, as the swimming and diving team welcomes Florida Gulf Coast. The dual meet with the Eagles is set for 2 p.m.
Gardner-Webb 192, Limestone 70 Gardner-Webb 108, North Carolina A&T 76 BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - In what was a busy weekend for the Gardner-Webb women's swim team, the Lady Bulldogs were victorious throughout the weekend, defeating Limestone College Friday evening by a 192-70 score, and then turned around to defeat North Carolina A&T by a score of 108-76.
Friday evening at Limestone, eight different Lady Bulldog swimmers were victorious, with junior Rachel Warkentin and senior Corey Hughey leading the way with four victories each. Warkentin timed in fastest in the 200 yard freestyle at 1:57.27, the 200 yard butterfly at 2:07.20, the 100 yard butterfly at 58.46, and was part of the winning 800 yard freestyle relay team at 8:00.63 with freshman Katherine Glenn, freshman Liz VanHalsema, and junior Lizzie Ketterer. Hughey was victorious in 100 yard backstroke at 59.58, the 50 yard freestyle at 25.00, the 200 yard backstroke at 2:09.85, and was part of the team that won the 400 yard medley relay at 4:02.46 with junior Sarah Steadman, freshman Kim Zachensky, and sophomore Veronica Case.
Saturday afternoon against NC A&T, the Lady Bulldogs timed in the quickest in each event. Warkentin, Glenn, junior Tory Bryant, senior Megan Sheets, and senior Kristen Sellers led the way for the team, each timing in the quickest in two events each.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on November 20-22 as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Georgia Tech.
East Carolina 178, College of Charleston 120 CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior Randy Buchanan (Mt. Pleasant, S.C) and freshman Gracie Herlong (Charleston, S.C.) paced the College of Charleston swimming and diving teams with three first place finishes a piece as the men's team (1-2, 1-0) dropped a 178-120 decision to East Carolina (2-1) while the women's team (3-4, 3-3) fell 195-99 to the Pirates (2-1) Saturday, November 7 at the Stern Center. Buchanan led the men's effort with top honors in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:04.81), 200-meter breaststroke (2:26.01) and 200-meter individual medley (2:10.17) while sophomore Matthew Sherrier (Boulder, Colo.) earned a pair of first place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle events with times of 53.65 and 1:54.90. He also took second in the 400-meter freestyle with mark of 4:07.64. Senior Chris Rogers (Aiken, S.C.) added two top honors in the 100-meter backstroke (59.29) and 200-meter backstroke (2:12.17) and senior Greg Greer (Clemmons, N.C.) finished second in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 59.22. Reigning Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Diver of the Week Peter Gibbons (Faifax, Va.) earned two second place finishes in the one-meter dive (235.20) and the three-meter dive (211.65) to round out the top finishers for the men. On the women's side, Herlong set the pace with first place performances in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly events with times of 1:06.11 and 2:23.50, respectively, and also took top honors in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:28.84. In that same event, freshmen Casey Sweeney (2:31.58) and Jordan Fogarty (2:45.47) helped the Cougars secure a sweep with second and third place finishes. A pair of second place finishers in wrapped up the top performers for the College of Charleston as junior Sara Gardocki (Suffield, Conn.) earned a runner-up finish in the 800-meter freestyle event (9:18.64) and sophomore Caitlin Shepherd (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took second in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:17.30). Both teams will be back in action when they travel to UNC Wilmington on Saturday, November 14 for a 2 p.m. meet.
NC State 157, Davidson 129 DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Leading the Davidson Wildcat swimming and diving team, Lindsey Martin continued her winning ways with a pair of individual titles, but the NC State Wolfpack was victorious on both sides of a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Cannon Natatorium.

Georgia Southern Defeats Campbell Friday Night
STATESBORO, Ga. - Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) recorded four first-place finishes and helped the Georgia Southern swimming & diving team (3-4) to a 199-63 win over Campbell (3-8) Friday night at the RAC.
Senior Martz combined with Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio), Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.) and Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) to tally a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. They finished with a time of 3:59.60, which ranks second in the CCSA. The Eagles' B team of Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.), Kristin Celii (Cary, N.C.), Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) and Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded a second-place finish with a time of 4:04.74, giving the Eagles a back-to-back finish.
Georgia Southern also won the other relay event, the 200 Free Relay. Martz, Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada), Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined for a time of 1:39.55, the second best this season for the Eagles. The B team, made up of Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.), Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.), White and Parr, came in third place with a time of 1:42.07. Martz and Campbell finished one-two in the 50 Free. All four Eagles improved on their season best time in the event. Martz finished first with a time of 24.36. Campbell finished second with a time of 24.79. Pasley came in fourth with a time of 25.38. Haudenschild finished sixth with a time of 26.12.
Also in freestyle action, Campbell and Pasley tallied another one-two finish in the 100 Free. Campbell finished first with a time of 54.13. Pasley recorded her first time of the season in the event and finished second with a 55.01 mark. Freshman Martin finished fifth with a time of 56.12.
Stephens won the 200 Free with a season-best time of 1:58.62. Mullican recorded a third-place finish and also posted a new season-best time (1:59.42). White and Goodman finished fourth and fifth respectively. White recorded a time of 2:00.96, and Goodman finished with a time of 2:03.55.
In the 500 Free, the Eagles won the top-four spots behind a top-five CCSA time from Parr. She finished first with a time of 5:09.61. Goodman claimed second place with a 5:19.47 mark. Stephens came in third place with a time of 5:20.55, and Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) finished fourth with a time of 5:20.64. GS won the top-three spots in the 1000 Free. Campbell recorded another top finish, coming in first place with a time of 10:31.33. Parr and Fell finished second and third in the event. Parr recorded a time of 10:44.68, and Fell finished third with a time of 11:03.45.
Bevillard won the 100 Back with a time of 1:00.32. Freshman Holly Hirsch (Fort Mill, S.C.) finished second with a new season-best time of 1:02.28. Alex Mitchell (Maitland, Fla.) recorded a season-best time of 1:04.40 enroute to a fourth-place finish.
In the 200 Back, Martz recorded another first-place finish with a time of 2:06.14. Mullican came in second with a season-best time of 2:12.62.
Celii won both the 100 and 200 Breast events. She finished the 100 Breast with a season-best time of 1:09.61 and set another season best in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:30.21. Bevillard finished second in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:30.32.
Martin won her second event of the night in the 200 Fly. She finished with a time of 2:10.29. The Eagles also swept the top-three places in the event. Bailey Cartwright (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished second with a time of 2:16.91, and Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) came in third with a time of 2:17.09. White won the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.08. Hirsch came in fourth for the Eagles with a time of 1:02.75.
GS also swept the top-three places in the 200 IM. Bevillard finished first with a new season-best time of 2:12.63. Martin came in second with a time of 2:15.50, and Fell finished third with a time of 2:16.31.
