Men's Swimming & Diving Knocks Off Pfeiffer, 157-118
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI won 10 of 15 events to defeat Pfeiffer, 157-118 in non-conference men’s swimming & diving action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark King Hall Pool.
Sophomore James Goodwillie won each of the three individual events he entered for VMI, including the 200 freestyle (1:50.38), 100 backstroke (55.10) and 400 individual medley (4:23.13). He was joined by several teammates who each won an event, including sophomores Matt Dale (1000 freestyle-10:41.31), Matt Elliott (50 backstroke-26.15) and Dallas Disbro (1-meter diving-113.25). Freshmen John Covert and Andrew Nelson also took home first-place finishes, coming in the 100 butterfly (55.72) and 500 freestyle (5:10.44), respectively.
The Keydet team of sophomore Mark Schumacher, and freshmen Hank Purvis, Chris Dreikorn and Nelson also combined to take the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:34.06.
The Falcon team of senior David Angell, junior Kevin Parks, freshman George Moreno and freshman Mark Franz, meanwhile, won the 400 medley relay with a 3:45.67 clocking. Other Pfeiffer wins came from Moreno in the 50 (22.21) and 100 freestyle (49.16), Angell in the 50 breaststroke (29.43) and Parks in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.9).
The VMI men’s swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, competing in a quad-meet at St. Peter’s.
Gardner-Webb Men’s Swimming Falls to UNC Wilmington Friday; Dominates Against Catawba Saturday
BOILING SPRINGS, NC- Friday night in Wilmington, the Gardner-Webb men’s swim team was defeated by UNC Wilmington by a score of 154-107, yet turned around to host Catawba Saturday afternoon, and defeated the Indians by a 142-62 score.
At UNC Wilmington, junior George Partin led the way for the Bulldogs, winning two events. His time of 1:45.42 in the 200 yard freestyle was the fastest, and he timed in the quickest in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 48.23. Sophomore Collin Burchins was victorious in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:11.49. Freshman Tyler Nuss won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.83, and junior Steven Caudill was victorious in the 100 yard butterfly, timing in at 52.34.
Against Catawba, Caudill, Burchins, Partin, and senior Adam Middleton were each victorious in two events, leading the team. In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Caudill, Burchins, Middleton, and junior Matthew Leonard timed in at 1:38.81 for the victory. Caudill also won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 53.01. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Burchins, Partin, and freshmen DJ Hughes and Mitchell Turner were quickest with a time of 1:30.52. Partin was fastest in the 200 yard freestyle, timing in at 1:50.10 for the win. Middleton won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 53.82. Other winners for the Bulldogs were junior Abram Miller in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:10.88, freshman Tyler Nuss in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:18.01, freshman Seth Carter in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.13, and freshman Tyler Revels in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.82.
The Bulldogs will return to action on November 6th as they travel to Gaffney, SC to face off against Limestone College. The meet is set to begin at 6:30 PM.
Emory 169, Davidson 106
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcat men's and women's swimming teams combined for 11 individual titles, but lost the dual meet to the Emory Eagles Saturday afternoon at the Emory Natatorium.
The Wildcats will return to Cannon Natatorium Friday when they host William & Mary at 5 p.m. |
