Eagles Defeat FAU, Georgia Southern in Season-Opening Meet ATLANTA, Ga. – The Florida Gulf Coast University swimming & diving team opened up the 2009-10 season with a split-decision, leaving the Georgia Tech Fall Quad Meet with two wins and two losses. In the day’s opening event, the 200 yard medley relay, FGCU got off to a good start, as the Eagles’ team of Viktoria Hyddmark, Dani Beabrun, Margie Chamberlin, and Line Lauridsen placed third with a time of 1:47.52. Leah Daniel built upon that start by placing second in the next event, the 1000 yard freestyle, with a time of 10:17.43 just one-tenth of a second behind Alabama’s Jenna Gallo. Daniel wasn’t done though, earning a third-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.96) and winning the 500 yard freestyle (5:01.90), one of two individual wins for the Eagles. The other came in the 50 yard freestyle, where Line Lauridsen won in a time of 23.85, over a half-second faster than the rest of the field. Vicky Cadge took home a third-place finish with a 1:06.65 in the 100 yard breaststroke competition. Margie Chamberlin also earned a pair of second-place finishes, finishing with a 2:03.80 in the 200 yard butterfly, and then tying for second place with a 57.20 in the 100 yard butterfly. Also earning a top-three finish for the Eagles was Myriam Plante in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.46. The Eagles will be back in the pool in two weeks as they play host to a pair of ACC schools, Miami and Florida State. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 AM on Saturday, October 17th, at the FGCU Aquatics Center. Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at Georgia Tech Quad Meet ATLANTA, Ga. - The Georgia Southern swimming and diving team (1-3) completed the Georgia Tech Quad Meet with a 147-141 win over Florida Atlantic. The Relays saw two top-10 finishes. Lindsay Goodman, Ashley White, Kristen Haudenschild and Courtney Martz finished 6th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:50.03. The Georgia Southern 400 Free Relay team of Emily Fell, Jordyn Pasley, Bevillard and Campbell finished seventh with a time of 3:37.72. Ali Campbell had 3 top-10 finishes on the day. Campbell was a member of the seventh place 400 Free Relay team and finished sixth in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:38.64. Campbell finished 13th in the 200 Free with a time of 1:57.40. Caroline Bevillard finished 16th in the 200 Free with a time of 1:59.19. Bevillard also finished seventh in the 500 Free with a time of 5:12.48. Freshmen Pirie Humphries (10:55.69) and Lindsay Mullican (10:58.68) finished 13th and 14th in the 1000 Free respectively. Martz opened the season in the 100 Back just three seconds behind her top time from a year ago. She finished seventh with a time of 1:00.42. Goodman finished three places behind Martz with a time of 1:01.71. Senior White came within a couple of seconds of her top time from last season in the 100 Breast. White finished eighth with a time of 108:20. Senior Lauren Parr finished 12th in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:12.44 and ninth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.46. The 200 Breast saw Parr (2:32.46) and White (2:33.29) finish back-to-back in 11th and 12th place respectively. The Eagles got strong performances in the 50 Free. Martz finished 9th with a time of 24.56, and Laurie Stephens came in 12th with a mark of 25.36. Both came close to their top times from last season. Bevillard finished 10th in the 100 Free with a mark of 54.02. Freshman Fell placed 13th with a time of 54.55. Goodman recorded a top-10 finish in the 200 Back (2:13.32). Caitlin Martin recorded a top-10 finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.67. The Eagles return to action October 24th in a tri-meet at the College of Charleston. Davidson Women’s Team Opens 2009-10 Season DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Junior Lindsey Martin won a pair of individual titles and contributed to a pair of winning relays as the Davidson Wildcat swimming and diving team opened its 2009-10 season by hosting the Clemson Tigers Saturday afternoon at Cannon Natatorium.
The Wildcats will return to action Oct. 17 against East Carolina at 1 p.m. at Cannon Natatorium.
Late Friday WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Howard men's and women's swim teams took a dive at the Potomac Relay Invitational, held at American University Oct. 2, to open their 2009-10 season. Swimmers showcased their strokes as they came off the starting blocks, giving healthy competition to some of Howard's neighboring competitors; The University of Mary Washington, Towson, George Mason, Georgetown, American, and George Washington universities were all in attendance. The men had an impressive finish in the 500 yard freestyle relay, finishing 4th, and the women's team placed 9th in the race. The women and men finished 7th overall in the meet.
