LIBERTY UNIVERISTY TO JOIN COASTAL COLLEGIATE SWIMMING ASSOCIATION
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) has added Liberty University’s Women’s Swimming program into the League, it was announced today by CCSA Executive Director Ted Gumbart. Liberty will begin its CCSA membership in 2010-11.
“We are excited to announce the first expansion of the CCSA with the addition of Liberty University in women’s swimming for next year,” said Gumbart. “The CCSA has been a wonderful partnership between the four participating conferences, and we are proud to provide a championship experience for all our swimming and diving student-athletes, now including the Liberty women’s team. We’re pleased to see the growth for the sport, and we wish Coach Shellenberger and his team best as they build the Lady Flames swim program.”
“We are thrilled here at Liberty to be joining the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association and we are excited to get started next year,” added Liberty head coach Jacob Shellenberger. “The Conference is young but very fast, and the fact that the Conference championship meet is held in venues that can also host the NCAA Division I Championship shows that the CCSA is serious about fast swimming and is willing to give their member schools every opportunity to achieve national level performances. We are grateful and look forward to great competition for years to come.”
“It is very exciting to be adding a Division I swimming program to our athletics program,” commented Jeff Barber, Director of Athletics at Liberty. “Having the opportunity to compete in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association will benefit our program in many ways and allow our team to compete at a very high level.”
Liberty women’s swimming will begin its first year as a varsity sport in 2010-11 and will take the place of former CCSA member North Florida, which discontinued women’s swimming and diving on March 22.
