CCSA Announces Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – College of Charleston’s Matthew Sherrier has been named the CCSA Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while teammate Peter Gibbons has been named the CCSA Men’s Diver of the Week for meets competed Nov. 9-15, it was announced today by the League.
Sherrier, a sophomore from Boulder, Colo., posted a pair of victories to lead the way for the College of Charleston in its dual meet against UNC Wilmington last Saturday. He began his day in dramatic fashion with a come-from-behind performance to win the 200 free (1:43.94), touching less than one second ahead of his next competitor. Sherrier followed that up with a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:43.49. He closed out his day anchoring both relay teams for the Cougars. Sherrier swam a split of 21.20 on the winning 200 free relay team (1:26.35), and added a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:30.95) with a split time of 47.47.
Gibbons, a freshman from Fairfax, Va., receives his third-straight CCSA Diver of the Week nod with another strong performance off the boards against UNC Wilmington last weekend. Gibbons earned top honors in the 1-meter event with a League-best score of 243.38. He also finished fourth in the 3-meter dive with a total of 219.83.
