The Flames Sit On Top After Day Two of T&F Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Liberty men lead after the second day of the 2012 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by Musco Lighting and UCS. The Flames posted a team score of 90.50 points at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Friday afternoon.
In the first final of the day, the open shot put, Liberty's Ryan Smith claimed the championship with a throw of 55' 2.25". Carson Sears of Gardner-Webb took second in the event with a throw of 53' 7.75". David Scouten of Liberty rounded out the list of All-Conference performers in the event with a mark of 52' 10.25".
Jacob DeValve of Liberty finished with 6,904 points to bring home the gold in the decathlon. Antonio Wood of VMI registered 6,672 points to claim second place, while Tristan Faure of High Point totaled 6,633 points to place third.
Kyle Wheeler of Liberty cleared 7' 1" to set the Big South Championship standard and win the gold in the event. In second was Burton Jones of Coastal Carolina with a jump of 6' 8.25". Antonio Wood rounded out the top three with a clearance of 6' 7".
Jacob Smith of High Point brought home first-place in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a clocking 8:54.56 to wrap up day two of the Big South Track and Field Championship. Placing second in the event was Josh MacDonald of Liberty with a time of 8:56.65. Patrick Crawford of High Point took third in the event as he crossed the line in 9:05.99.
The final day of the 2012 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships presented by Musco Lighting and UCS will start on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00am.
