Sherika Montgomery, Assistant Commissioner - Compliance
Sherika A. Montgomery is in her sixth year with the Big South Conference office, and her second year as Assistant Commissioner for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator. She has previously served the conference as Director of Compliance & Administration and Assistant Director of Compliance, and spent the 2010-11 season as the conference's Administrative/Compliance Intern.
Montgomery oversees all compliance activities related to the NCAA and Big South Conference. She provides day-to-day governance and legislative services to the conference membership and researches and interprets NCAA and Big South rules and regulations. Montgomery implements initiatives of the conference’s strategic plan, with a focus on areas related to academic centrality and student-athlete experience.
She serves as the coordinator for the Big South’s Council of Senior Woman Administrators, Compliance Administrators and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Montgomery also organizes the conference’s annual Student-Athlete Leadership Conference and in-person SAAC meeting. In addition to her Big South responsibilities, Montgomery is the vice chair of the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics.
A former student-athlete at Big South member Gardner-Webb University, Montgomery served as an intern in the GWU athletic department where she assisted the Senior Women’s Administrator and oversaw compliance tasks. She was a four-year letterwinner in women’s basketball, was a three-time team captain and was a member of the 2009-10 Big South regular-season championship squad. Montgomery, who served as Vice President of Gardner-Webb’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from 2007-09, earned her Master's Degree in Sports Science and Pedagogy in May 2011 from Gardner-Webb, and Bachelor of Science degree in sport management from GWU in 2010.
