Salec Recieves Second Straight Automatic Bid to NCAA Singles Championships
RADFORD, Va. - Senior Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) of the Radford men's tennis team has received the Big South's automatic bid to participate in the 2011 NCAA Singles Championships later this month in Stanford, Calif.
Ranked 124th in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, Salec received the bid by being the league's highest ranked player.
The only four-time all-conference singles and doubles selection in school history, Salec is 31-5 on the season, including a 20-2 mark at the top spot this spring.
Salec, who has been named Big South Player of the Week nine times over the last two seasons, enters his second straight NCAA Championships with 106 career victories, which is second most in school history.
During the fall of 2009, Salec defeated the 4th, 12th, 39th, 50th and 73rd ranked players in the country at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
This year marks the sixth straight season a Highlander has been selected to take part in the NCAA Championships.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at The Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., on the campus of Stanford University.
