RU's Sayer Receives Automatic Bid to NCAA Singles Championships

Sophomore Nick Sayer of the Radford men's tennis team has received the Big South's automatic bid to participate in the 2012 NCAA Singles Championships later this month in Athens, Ga.
 
Sayer earned the bid by being the league's highest ranked player.
 
The 2012 Big South Player of the Year, Sayer led the Highlanders with a 29-10 record at the top singles position. Named Player of the Week four times in 2012, Sayer has a career record of 59-16, which includes an upset of then-No. 9 Jose Hernandez of North Carolina during the fall.
 
This year marks the seventh-straight season a Highlander has been selected to take part in the NCAA Championships. Martin Sayer, the older brother of Nick, advanced four times, while Ivan Salec competed in 2010 and 2011.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at The Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on the University of Georgia campus.
 
Radford was tabbed the No. 4 seed in the Lexington Regional and will take on host Kentucky (26-5) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 11.
