Radford Men's Tennis Draws No. 6 Kentucky in NCAA Tournament


Fresh off its fifth Big South Tournament title in six years, Radford was tabbed the No. 4 seed in the Lexington Regional and will take on host Kentucky (26-5) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament on Friday, May 11.
The winner of the Highlanders first-round matchup will advance to the round of 32 (May 12) to face the victor of the dual between second-seeded Indiana and third-seeded Louisville.
The 2012 Big South Champions, members of the athletic department staff, students and individuals from the community gathered at the Dedmon Center on the Radford University campus to watch the Selection Show.
The nationally-ranked Highlanders enter the NCAA Tournament 20-5 after defeating seventh-seeded Presbyterian, 4-0, in the 2012 Big South Championship on April 21 in Asheville.
Each team will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first and second round sites (four teams at each site) and the finals site (16-team bracket) to determine the national champion. The matches will be regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played best of three sets. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at eight games all in doubles and at six games all in singles.

The Lexington Regional winner advances to the 2012 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships at The Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on the University of Georgia campus May 18-22.

Selections for the NCAA Men's Singles/Doubles Tournament will be announced Wednesday, May 2.
