No. 4 UNC Asheville Tops No. 5 Campbell, 3-0

CHARLESTON, S.C.  - No. 5 UNC Asheville (15-13) defeated No. 4 Campbell University (13-18) in game two of the 2011 Big South Volleyball Championship presented by Musco Lighting, at the Buccaneer Field House on the campus of Charleston Southern University.

UNC Asheville came out aggressive; a kill by Cindi Miller would give the Lady Bulldogs the 5-1 advantage early.  Campbell would battle back to cut the lead to three, 8-5. Kills by Anna Moore and Miller would stretch the Asheville lead, 12-6.  With kills by Miller, Moore and Holly Shelton, the Lady Bulldogs would rattle off seven points in a row to take the 19-7 lead. A kill by Brooke Kelley would bring CU within 11 at 20-9.  The Lady Bulldogs would continue to apply pressure, eventually defeating CU, 25-14.

The second set started tied at three.  UNC Asheville would put together a 7-0 run led by two kills from Meredith Foster to take the 10-3 lead.  Asheville would cling to a nine point lead for most of the set, as a kill by Kelley would put the Lady Bulldogs up, 19-10.  Campbell would battle back to cut the lead to six, 21-15, but Asheville proved too much down the stretch and took the second set, 25-15. 

The third set saw Asheville hop out to the early 3-2 lead thanks to kills by Miller and Kelley.  Asheville would keep a 3-5 point lead throughout the match, stretching the lead to as much as seven, 17-10.  A kill by Chelsey Pachoud would bring CU within four 19-15.  Kills by Shelton and Jordan Reaves would close out Campbell, giving Asheville the 25-18 victory.

Asheville had three players with double digit kills; Foster (15), Miller (14) and Moore (13), Hallie Morse led the way with 37 assists while Alex Stewart dug up 15 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Campbell was led by Kelley's eight kills on 19 total attacks. Heather Wilson dished out 11 while Avery Anderson was not fall behind with 10. Lauren Garza dug up a team best 10.

With the win UNC Asheville moves on to the semifinals to face No.1 Liberty University on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
