No. 3 CCU Sweeps No. 6 LU to Advance to Semifinals


ASHEVILLE, N.C. ( – After earning a hard fought point in doubles the No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina cruised to a 4-0 finish over Liberty on Thursday evening at the 2012 Big South Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at Asheville Racquet Club South.

Coastal’s team of Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock earned an 8-6 win over Liberty before the Flames’ Rebekah Jenkins and Alexandra Sheeran pulled out an 8-3 win over the Chanticleers.  The No. 3 doubles team of Maria Hesketh and Kourtney Kowal then earned a 9-8 (7-4) victory to give Coastal the first point of the match.

In singles action the Chanticleers’ Mikaela Kristofersson made quick work of Jenkins, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win.  Kowal then defeated Nicola Wellman of Liberty, 6-0, 7-5, followed by Katie Fosnacht’s 6-2, 6-0 victory over Liberty’s Brittany Yang gave the Chanticleers the 4-0 victory.

Coastal will advance to the semifinals beginning tomorrow at 1:00pm. The Chanticleers will face the No. 2 seed Charleston Southern, which defeated No. 7 Campbell earlier today.
