Liberty Wins 2012 Big South Indoor Track & Field Crown
BLACKSBURG, VA. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - The Liberty women won the 2012 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Musco Lighting and UCS Saturday afternoon at the Rector Fieldhouse on the campus of Virginia Tech. The Lady Flames notched a total of 187 points to win their third-straight Indoor Track and Field crown.
The Coastal Carolina finished second with 174.5 points followed by Charleston Southern in third with 99 points, and Gardner-Webb in fourth with 45 points. UNC Asheville came in at No. 5 with 30 points, ahead of High Point at No. 6 with 28 points. Campbell and VMI tied for No. 7 with 26 points and Radford garnered the No. 9 slot with 24 points. Winthrop closed out the scoring for the women with 23.5 points.
Jennifer Klugh of Liberty took home the Most Outstanding Track Performer for the second-consecutive year. Klugh won the gold in the 3,000-meters and the mile, while finishing second in the 5K. Coastal Carolina's Kierra Gabe was tabbed the women's Most Outstanding Field Performer as she took home first in both the triple jump and the high jump.
Charleston Southern's Murlern Jean was tabbed the Big South Freshman of the Year, while Brant Tolsma won Coach of the Year honors.
Kelsey Fraser of High Point was named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
