Liberty Voted 2012-13 Preseason Women's Basketball Favorite

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Liberty University has been chosen as the favorite in the Big South Conference's annual women's basketball preseason poll for the 2012-13 season in a vote of the League's Head Coaches and media panel.  The announcement was made today at the Renaissance Suites Hotel in Charlotte, N.C., as part of the 2012-13 Basketball Tip-Off Media Luncheon.

For the 15th time in the last 16 seasons, Liberty is the preseason favorite, as the Lady Flames received 16 of the 22 first-place votes and 233 out of a possible 242 points.  Liberty welcomes back three starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's Big South championship and NCAA Tournament squad.  High Point, last year's Tournament Runner-Up, was voted second with 215 points and collected four first-place votes, while Winthrop was picked third with 199 points and the remaining two first-place votes.  Campbell was voted fourth this year with 159 points, while Radford was picked fifth with 154 points from the panel.

Charleston Southern was predicted to finish sixth (136 points), while Coastal Carolina claimed the seventh spot in the poll with 92 points.  Presbyterian College was eighth in the preseason ranking (91 points), followed by Gardner-Webb (ninth, 62 points), UNC Asheville (10th, 60 points) and new member Longwood (11th, 51 points).

Big South basketball tips off Friday, Nov. 9 with five contests, and the first Conference date is Wednesday, Nov. 28.  The season culminates with the 2013 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships the week of March 5-10 at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.  The combined, one-site men's and women's basketball tournament format features all 23 teams and 21 games in six days, including the crowning of champions on Sunday, March 10.
