Gardner-Webb's Hutschalik Receives NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Gardner-Webb graduate and current graduate student Christoph Hutschalik was one of 29 male student-athletes to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the spring 2011 season.

Hutschalik, who graduated in December 2010 with an undergraduate degree in International Business, has been working toward an MBA degree in International Business this spring, posting a perfect 4.00 grade point average thus far in his graduate studies.

The two-time NCAA qualifier and four-time All-Conference performer was tabbed the 2011 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for both the men's indoor and outdoor track & field seasons and is a four-time Big South All-Academic Team member.

Hutschalik, who is GWU's school record-holder in both the hammer throw and weight throw events, is also a candidate for the 2010-11 Big South Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

He is the first Runnin' Bulldog to receive the NCAA award.

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women.  The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women.  The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.
