Nicol-Samuel Takes Individual Men's Crown; Women Win Team Title at UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C.-Junior DeLohnni Nicol-Samuel claimed the men's individual win while the Campbell women won their team event Friday evening at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.

With the 5K meets scored in dual format, the Camel women's team closed out UNCW 26-49, while Campbell's men were just edged out by the Seahawks, 28-32.

With a new personal best 5K time of 15:24.40, Nicol-Samuel topped UNCW's Wil Zahorodny and his mark of 15:35.40. At last weekend's Campbell Invitational Zahorodny claimed the men's crown, edging Nicol-Samuel in Buies Creek.

All eight Camels finished in the top-25 of the 91 man race, with sophomore Morgan Timiney taking third with a time of 15:46.99. The mark crushed Timiney's former 5K personal-best of 16:36.00, set just last week.

Chris Schulist (7th, 16:08.87), Eric Baldwin (11th, 16:15.37), Colin Lavigne (13th, 16:19.37), Evan Darm (17th, 16:27.49), Clayton Woll (21st, 16:32.21) and Michael Bedell (25th, 16:41.98) rounded out the Camel men's performance. Schulist, Baldwin, Darm, Woll and Bedell all set PR's in the race.

On the women's side, seven Camels finished in the top-12, with Rachel Deline leading the way in second place. The senior notched a time of 18:37.81, just behind Ericka Skinner of Barton, who won the women's individual race with her 18:12.09.

Camels Samantha Robbins and Ashley Mathews finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 19:09.66 and 19:14.95.

Cynthia Navarro (7th, 19:17.64), Laura Verschuren (8th, 19:31.42), Claudia Mundy (10th, 19:45.19), Siera Hagl (12th, 19:50.59), Mary Ellen Spika (17th, 20:12.13), Chelsey Bush (24th, 20:45.79), Sena Bekric (30th, 21:21.05), Courtney Schultz (32nd, 21:28.44) and Morgan Grange (40th, 21:51.97) completed the CU efforts in the meet.

Deline, Mathews, Navarro, Spika, Bekric, Schultz and Grange all recorded 5K personal-bests on Friday.

Next up for the Camels will be the Coastal Carolina Invitational / Big South Preview in Conway, S.C. on Sep. 17.
 
Williamson Leads Radford Cross Country to Third Place Finish at Lou Onesty Invitational
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Radford women's cross country team posted a third-place showing led by an 11th-place performance by freshman Teresa Williamson (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) to highlight the Lou Onesty Invitational Friday evening.
 
The competition was held at Panorama Farms and featured six women's teams and seven on the men's side.  As a team, the Highlander women finished in third with 98 points behind host Virginia and Ohio Northern University. 
 
In her first collegiate 5k, Williamson led all Highlanders, finishing 11th out of 56 total runners at 19:51.30.  Caroline Ratterree (Falcon, Colo./Northeastern JUCO), a senior who joined track and field last year, crossed the finish line in 20:47.90 to place 20th. 
 
Finishing on each others heels in 24th and 25th were teammates Hannah Scheren (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and Emily Marshall (Prince George, Va./Prince George), who ran a 21:21.10 and 21:21.30, respectively.
 
On the men's side, Chris Weeks (Hamilton, Va./Loudoun Valley) shattered his personal best from a year ago by over 32 seconds.  He was the first Radford runner to cross the finish line and recorded a 28th-place performance at 27:30.80. 
 
Also finishing back-to-back (34th and 35th) were Sam Keltner (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and Thomas Keefe (Fairfax Station, Va./South County Secondary), who capped the 8k in 28:07.20 and 28:11.30. 
 
Radford heads to Conway, S.C. next Saturday, Sept. 17 to compete in the Big South Preview, hosted by Coastal Carolina.  Competition gets underway at 10:30 a.m.
