Big South Announces Women's Tennis Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Liberty sophomore Alexandra Sheeran (Savannah, Ga.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while Radford's Hannah Crawford (Winchester, Hampshire UK) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Jan. 30-Feb. 5, it was announced today by the League office.

Sheeran won both the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles match in Liberty's 4-3 loss to Richmond last weekend.  She teamed up with Rebekah Jenkins to claim the team's sole doubles win against Melissa Kandinata and Joanna Matuszczyk (8-5).  The sophomore then topped the Spiders' senior Helen Cunningham (6-3, 6-3).

Crawford finished the weekend with a win in both No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles as the Highlanders topped UMBC, 4-3.  She paired up with Meg Napalitano to secure the crucial doubles point, 9-8 (5), before defeating UMBC's Carmen Jackman in three sets (6-1, 6-7, 6-2) to clinch the victory for the Highlanders.

Also nominated for Women's Tennis Player of the Week: Kourtney Kowal (Coastal Carolina), Erica White (Gardner-Webb), Patricia Alves (Presbyterian College) and Yasmine Alkema (Winthrop).

Also nominated for Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week: Katie Fosnacht (Coastal Carolina), Alice Hopkins (Gardner-Webb) and Monica Aguado (Winthrop).
