Big South Announces Women's Basketball Players of the Week


CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( - Radford's Da'Naria Erwin Spencer has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Karlee Taylor of Presbyterian College was tabbed The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for games played Feb. 22-28, the League announced today.

Erwin Spencer, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., averaged 25 points per game and shot 59 percent from the floor to lead the Highlanders to a 2-0 record in League play last week.  She put in a career-high 30 points on 63 percent from the field and 9-of-11 from the stripe as Radford downed Presbyterian College on Feb. 28.  She also chipped in seven boards, a pair of assists and two steals.  Her 30-point performance notched the first time a Radford player has went for 30 or more points since the 2007-08 season.  The guard began her week with 20 points as she connected on 7-of-13 from the floor, 83 percent from the line and one from downtown in Radford's overtime win over Charleston Southern on Feb. 26.  She also finished with four rebounds, dished out two helpers and came away with one steal in the victory over the Bucs.

Taylor, a guard from Asheville, N.C., put in 15.0 points per game and connected on 50 percent from the floor to help the Blue Hose to a 1-1 record last week.  She got her week started with 15 points, including 10-of-10 from the charity stripe as well as three boards and three assists in the Blue Hose 73-65 win over Gardner-Webb on Feb. 26.  Against Radford two days later, Taylor put in 15 points on 67 percent from the floor, 3-of-4 from downtown and 4-of-4 from the line.  She also corralled three rebounds against the Highlanders.

Also nominated for women's basketball Player of the Week for Week 15:  Kelsey Wasmer (Charleston Southern), Dominique Hudson (Gardner-Webb), Shamia Brown (High Point), Avery Warley (Liberty), Karlee Taylor (Presbyterian College) and Lindsey Montgomery (UNC Asheville).

Also nominated for women's basketball Freshman of the Week for Week 15:  Catrina Green (Gardner-Webb), Cheyenne Parker (High Point), Emily Frazier (Liberty) and Dequesha McClanahan (Winthrop).
