Big South Announces Track & Field Athletes of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - UNC Asheville's Milan Ristic has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Jennifer Klugh of Liberty earned the Big South Women's Track Athlete of the Week.  Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina's Jason Flanagan was tabbed the Men's Field Athlete of the Week, with Jessica Dunston of Campbell earning the Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor, the League announced today.

Ristic, a sophomore from Belgrade, Serbia, posted the League's second-fastest time ever in the 110-meter hurdles, as he crossed the line in 13.94 at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend.  His time set the Asheville standard in the event as he finished third overall.  Ristic's time is currently tied for seventh in the NCAA East Region.

Klugh, a senior from Centerburg, Ohio, placed eighth overall in Section I of the 1,500-meter event at the Raleigh Relays.  She broke the tape in a personal-best time of 4:26.75 to rank No. 25 in the NCAA East Region.

Flanagan, a senior from Philadelphia, Pa., set the All-Time Big South standard in the javelin at the North Florida Invitational with a throw of 239' 1.0" (72.87m).  His mark was good for first-place by two meters in the event as he is currently ranked No. 7 in the country and No. 5 in the NCAA East Region.

Dunston, a junior from Knightdale, N.C., reset the Campbell school record in the hammer throw for the third-straight time with a throw of 55.50 meters at the Raleigh Relays.  She finished fifth overall in the event and is ranked No. 27 in the NCAA East Region.

Men's Track Honorable Mentions:
Felix Kitur, VMI - Ran the NCAA East Region's fastest 800 meters with a time of 1:48.14 to place first at the Richmond Invitational.
Javon Young, Charleston Southern - Placed second in the 100-meter event at the North Florida Invitational with a time of 10.35.
Rozzie Johnson, Dantwan Spreads, Cornelius Tyler and Javon Young, Charleston Southern 4x100 - Won the 4x100-meter event with a time of 40.26 at the North Florida Invitational.
Chris Schulist, Campbell - Posted a personal-best time of 3:50.11 to win Section III of the 1,500-meter event at the Raleigh Relays.

Men's Field Honorable Mentions:
Kyle Wheeler, Liberty - Posted a career-best jump of 6' 11.75" in the B Section of the high jump at the Texas Relays.  His jump was good for No. 5 on the Liberty Performance List in the event.

Women's Track Honorable Mentions:
Murlern Jean, Charleston Southern - Placed first in the 100-meter hurdles at the North Florida Invitational with a time of 13.75.
Sharrone Honor, Winthrop - Placed first in the 100-meter hurdles, 200 meters and was a member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team at the Winthrop Invitational.  She clocked in at 14.14 in the hurdles, 24.66 in the 200 and led her relay team to a time of 48.37.
Manika Gamble, High Point - Placed fifth at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 14.00 in the 100-meter hurdles.

Women's Field Honorable Mentions:
Daisy Whitaker, Charleston Southern - Posted a school-record throw of 46.18 meters to finish third in the discus at the North Florida Invitational.
