Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Longwood forward Devin Pierce has been tabbed the Big South Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while High Point goalkeeper Kody Palmer garnered Big South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 3-9, the League announced today.
Pierce, a senior from Virginia Beach, Va., posted two goals to lead Longwood to a 1-1 record last week, including its first-ever Big South men's soccer win. After scoring a goal against UNC Greensboro on Sept. 4, Pierce put in the game-winner to give Longwood the 1-0 win over the UNC Asheville on Sept. 9. His goal came in the 73rd minute as he converted a penalty kick. The honor is Longwood's first-ever men's soccer Player of the Week selection.
Palmer, a red-shirt freshman from Centreville, Va., collected five saves in the 2-0 shutout of Navy on Sept. 8. The shutout marked his second-straight clean sheet. The honor is his first Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Also nominated for Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week for Week 3: Mamadee Nyepon (High Point) and Kyle Forche (VMI).
Also nominated for Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3: Uchenna Uzo (Coastal Carolina), Carl Carpenter (Longwood) and Ryan Taylor (Radford).
