Big South Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( - Campbell midfielder Mitchell Cardenas has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while Aldo Macias of Radford garnered the Defensive Player of the Week honor for games played Oct. 24-30, the League announced today.

Cardenas, a junior from Mexico City, Mexico, tallied four goals and an assist to lead his Camels to a 2-0 Big South record last week.  He was in on every goal in the 3-1 win over Liberty on Oct. 25 as he kicked in a pair of goals and dished out an assist.  Against VMI on Oct. 29, Cardenas netted the game-winner and posted an insurance goal in the 79th minute to lift Campbell to the 3-2 win.  For his efforts in the two-game span, Cardenas was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.

Macias, a redshirt-senior from Dumfries, Va., led the Highlander defense as Radford picked up a win over ACC foe Virginia Tech and scored a tie with Gardner-Webb who sits at No. 2 in the Big South standings.  Against the Hokies on Oct. 25, the defender keyed VT's top striker and anchored the defense to hold Virginia Tech to just two shots on goal. Four days later against Gardner-Webb, Macias blocked several GWU shot attempts and kept the Highlander defense organized as the Runnin' Bulldogs only got off three shots on frame.
