Big South Announces Baseball Players of the Week - Feb. 17
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) – Campbell’s Danny Pardo has been named the Big South Conference Baseball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Tory Schroff from Charleston Southern was tabbed The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played the opening weekend of the 2014 season, the League announced today.
Pardo, a freshman from Pembroke Pines, Fla., batted .750 with nine hits and an RBI to lead the Camels to a 3-0 series sweep over La Salle over the weekend. He posted three multiple-hit games, including four hits in the third game of the series on Feb. 16. He also scored five runs, and smacked a double and stole four bases in the three-game set. In the field, Pardo notched eight putouts from his spot in the outfield. The honor marks his first Big South Player of the Week selection this season.
Schroff, a senior from Mt. Laurel, N.J., struck out eight batters in six innings pitched to pick up the 2-0 win over Villanova on Feb. 15. The left-hander scattered just three hits in the contest and did not allow an extra base hit. His strikeout total was just one shy of his career high. The honor is his first Big South Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for Player of the Week for Week: Zack Hagaman (Charleston Southern), Scott Coleman (Gardner-Webb), Brandon Delk (Longwood), Brandon Martin (Presbyterian College), Chris Coia (Radford), Jordan Tarsovich (VMI) and Stephen Wallace (Winthrop).
Also nominated for Pitcher of the Week for Week: Ryan Thompson (Campbell), Chandler Knox (Presbyterian College), Dylan Nelson (Radford), Taylor Edens (VMI) and Joey Strain (Winthrop).
