Big South Announces 2012 Softball Championship Seeds

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) Radford posted a 16-5 record in Big South play to earn its fourth consecutive Big South regular-season championship and No. 1 seed in the 2012 Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting and Brookwood Farms BBQ, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon.  The Highlanders are also hosting the championship, which will be played at the Radford Softball Field beginning on Thursday.

Coastal Carolina came in at the No. 2 seed as it finished the season with a 13-8 mark in Conference play.  Charleston Southern and Campbell each posted identical 12-9 records in the League to tie for third.  The Lady Bucs won the regular-season series with the Camels, two games to one game to claim the No. 3 slot, and pushed Campbell to the No. 4 spot.  Gardner-Webb finished at the No. 5 seed with an 11-10 record.  Liberty posted a 9-12 record in the Big South to land in the No. 6 position, and Presbyterian College's 8-13 record was good for the No. 7 seed.  Winthrop rounds out the seeds as it garnered the No. 8 spot with a 3-18 Conference record.

The 2012 Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting and Brookwood Farms BBQ begins Thursday, May 10 with six games scheduled and concludes with the Championship contest on Sunday, May 13 at 12:00pm live on ESPNU.  The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.  All games will be video streamed live on the Conference's broadband channel, the Big South Network presented by State Farm.  In-game statistics will be available on www.BigSouthSports.com and www.ruhighlanders.com.  The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:

** - Game 13 will be necessary if the winner of Game 9 defeats the winner of Game 8.  Game 14 will be necessary if the winner of Game 10 defeats the winner of Game 7.  If both games are played, they will both be played on Saturday.
