Bennett Named to College Soccer News Team of the Week

CONWAY - Ashton Bennett, the leading goal scorer for the 9th ranked Coastal Carolina men's soccer team, has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the second time this season.

Bennett contributed the game-winning goal during Coastal's 3-0 win over Presbyterian College on Wednesday.

On Saturday he backed up that performance with a pair of goals and an assist in the regular season finale against Campbell. Bennett scored the game-winning goal on a pass over the Campbell defense from Shawn McLaws to give Coastal a 2-1 lead.

Seven minutes later, Bennett added his 21st goal of the year on a cross from Pedro Ribeiro. Bennett returned the favor for Ribeiro in the 67th minute after Bennett's shot was blocked, Ribeiro biked in his eighth goal of the year to put the Chanticleers up 4-1 over the Camels.

Bennett finished the regular season ranked in a tie for second for the most goals (21) during a single season in Coastal history while ranking third in total points in a season (48).

He entered the week as the NCAA leader in total points, points per game, second in goals scored and second in goals per game.

In addition to this accolade Bennett has been named to both the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week and the Big South Attacker of the Week three times this season. He received the National Player of the Week honor for the week ending Oct. 24.

Coastal's next scheduled match is Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2:30 against UNC Asheville in the opening round of the Big South Tournament in Boiling Springs, N.C. Coastal (16-2, 9-0 BSC) enters the match as the #1 seed and is currently riding a 12-game winning streak stretching back to Sept. 18
