CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Gardner-Webb's Savannah Burns (Vale, N.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College's Kensley Loudermelk (Taylorsville, N.C.) has received The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week honor for games played April 2-8, it was announced today by the Conference office.
Burns batted .625 with two runs, five RBI, five hits and a homerun, while drawing two walks to help the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-1 record last week. In game one of the series against Campbell, the freshman recorded her third homerun of the season to along with four RBI in the 8-0 win over the Fighting Camels. In the second game, Burns added another RBI off two hits in the 3-2 victory. She tallied her fifth run of the week in the final game of the series, while getting hit by a pitch for her second walk. She finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .727 on-base percentage and eight total bases. Burns also recorded six assists and three putouts over the three-game stretch.
Loudermelk went 3-0 with one complete game victory in 13.0 innings pitched last week as the Blue Hose went 3-0. She began her week with a two-inning, two-hit relief effort in Presbyterian's 12-11 victory over Winthrop. In game two of the series against the Lady Eagles, Loudermelk struck out five, while scattering eights hits and surrendering just one run in seven innings pitched. The freshman started the final game, giving up just one run off two hits in four innings pitched, helping Presbyterian clinch the series. Loudermelks' line last week: 3 APP., 3-0, 2.15 ERA, 13.0 IP, 12 H, 4 R/ER, 5 BB, 5 SO.
