CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Campbell freshman forward Ashley Clark (Cary, N.C.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College senior goalkeeper Sarah Beth Anderson (Grayson, Ga.) has earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor for games played Sept. 19-25, the League announced today.
Clark netted two goals, including a game-winning score, as Campbell picked up wins over Valparaiso and IUPUI last weekend at the Crusader Classic. Against Valparaiso on Sept. 23, Clark fueled a Campbell comeback as she scored a goal just seconds into the second half to propel Campbell to the 3-2 win over the Crusaders. Two days later, Clark kicked in the game-winning goal as she converted a blast from the top of the box to give Campbell the 2-1 win. For her efforts on the weekend, Clark was named to the Crusader Classic All-Tournament team.
Anderson registered a season-high eight saves to earn her second-straight shutout with a 1-0 blanking over The Citadel on Sept. 20. Her first save of the night gave her the PC record for career saves, breaking Emily Campbell's mark of 214. The senior Blue Hose made six saves in the first half to control the Bulldog attack before sealing the clean sheet with two saves in the second half.
Also nominated for women's soccer Attacking Player of the Week for Week 6: Morgann Wood (Charleston Southern), Stephanie Allen (Presbyterian College) and Krystyna Freda (Winthrop).
Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week for Week 6: Hilliary Gupton (Campbell), Maddie Phillips (Coastal Carolina) and Karen Blocker (Liberty).
