CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty’s Jordan Jenkins has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb’s Erica White has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Feb. 15-21, it was announced today by the Conference ofice.
Jenkins, a junior from Sarasota, Fla., won each match she competed in last week against East Carolina and Campbell. Liberty’s No. 1 singles player dropped only two games in a straight-set victory over Audrey LePottier (6-1, 6-1) of ECU on Feb. 17, before defeating her Campbell opponent last Saturday, 7-5, 6-0. In doubles action, she and her partner Hannah Fick won both of their contests at the No. 1 position. Jenkins is currently ranked 99th in the country in singles and has won four consecutive singles matches. This is Jenkins second Player of the Week honor on the season.
White, a freshman from Charleston, W.Va, posted wins in both of her singles matches, while going 1-1 in doubles play last week against Appalachian State and East Carolina. Against the Mountaineers on Feb. 18, White defeated Ellie Linsell (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 1 singles spot and teamed with Kasey Ellis to knock off their doubles opponent (8-6) as GWU took the 6-1 victory. In the match against East Carolina, she did not lose a point in singles play as she defeated Audrey LePottier, 6-0, 6-0. The honor marks her second consecutive Freshman of the Week plaudit on the year.
Also nominated for Womenn’s Tennis Player of the Week: Marija Dzakovic (Charleston Southern), Erica White (Gardner-Webb) and Heather Heusel (Presbyterian College).
