CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University baseball team will open the 2008 NCAA Cary Super Regional Saturday, June 7 at 12 p.m. against the University of North Carolina, the NCAA announced late Monday night. Game two will be Sunday, June 8 at 1 p.m. with an if necessary game three Monday, June 9 at either 12:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. Saturday’s game will be on ESPNU with Sunday’s game on ESPN. Monday’s game would be on either ESPN or ESPN2.
Coastal won the NCAA Conway Regional June 1, defeating East Carolina 24-11. North Carolina, the national number two seed, defeated UNC Wilmington 7-3 June 1 to win the NCAA Cary Regional.
The two teams met March 11 in Cary, with the Chanticleers coming away with an 11-4 win. Junior David Anderson (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) picked up the win on the mound while sophomore Adam Rice (Murphy, Texas/Elgin C.C.) went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Coastal and North Carolina have met one other time in the postseason. The Tar Heels came back to win 6-5 in the 2004 NCAA Columbia Regional.
