Matt VanSandt, Assistant Director of Marketing

Matt VanSandt is in his second year with the Big South Conference as the Assistant Director of Marketing.  He joined the staff in August, 2011.

In his role, he is responsible for assisting with the implementation and execution of the Big South's marketing program.  He also serves as the League liaison for the Big South Marketing Directors and assists with growing the Conference's Collegiate Partner Program.  In addition, he handles the marketing and promotion of the the annual Big South 5K Road Race.  VanSandt also serves as the administrative liasion and championship coordinator for cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.

VanSandt joined the Big South after earning a master's degree in both Business Administration and Sports Administration from Ohio University in 2011.  While at OU, VanSandt served as the graduate assistant for the Center for Sports Administration, where he was responsible for managing the primary website, write and edited feature articles, and marketed the new Professional MSA program and San Diego Consulting course.  He was also a marketing assistant for the OU athletic department, where he designed promotional material for the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl featuring Ohio vs. Troy, as well as creating marketing plans for home basketball games.

VanSandt's experience also includes working for the Louisville Sports Commission, where he updated web profiles of the national candidates for the Paul Hornung College Football Award, and working as a freelance sports journalist for the Chicago Sun-Times.  During the summer of 2010, VanSandt interned at the University of Wisconsin in the compliance and student-athlete development office, where he provided interpretation of the NCAA Division I Manual for coaches, staff, and student-athletes.

A native of Roanoke, Va., VanSandt graduated Cum Laude from Augustana College in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and sociology.  He was a three-year member of the men's track & field team as a mid-distance runner.
