CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Radford midfielder Brian Gwanzura has been tabbed the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Attacking Player of the Week, while Scott Angevine of Coastal Carolina garnered the Defensive Player of the Week honor for games Sept. 5-11, the League announced today.
Gwanzura, a senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, put in four goals in two games to lead his squad to a 2-0 record at the High Point Invitational over the weekend. After scoring his first goal of the season in the 5-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Sept. 9, Gwanzura finished with a hat trick to fuel Radford to the 3-0 win over Stony Brook on Sept. 11. His hat trick marked the first by a Highlander player since the 2007 campaign.
Angevine, a senior from Kansas City, Kansas, posted 11 saves in 193:37 minutes in goal to lead the Chanticleers to a 2-0 record at their home tournament over the weekend, including a win over then No. 16 Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 11. He got his weekend started with five saves in his first shutout of the season, to lead Coastal Carolina to the 2-0 win over George Washington on Sept. 9. He followed that effort six with saves in the 2-1 double overtime win against the Rams.
