CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Coastal Carolina midfielder/defender Kacey Kelley has been tabbed the Big South Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while Longwood goalkeeper Kyra Byron was named the Big South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 3-9, the League announced today.
Kelley, a sophomore from Ashburn, Va., notched a pair of goals to lead the Chanticleers to a win over The Citadel on Sept. 7. She opened the scoring up in the 49th minute as she collected an Ashley Day assist and tucked the ball into the left side of the net. In the 70th minute, Kelley headed in a Camille Christie service from the corner to push Coastal Carolina to the 3-0 win. The honor is her first Big South Player of the Week nod this season.
Byron, a senior from Richmond, Va., posted six saves as Longwood took a 1-0 shutout road victory at UMBC on Sept. 9. Five of her saves came in the second half, including four after the Lancers had taken their one-goal advantage. It was the third shutout in six matches this season for Byron as she picks up her first Big South Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week for Week 4: Kelsey Pardue (Longwood) and Julie Ruh'e (Radford).
