The Presbyterian College women's tennis team dropped a Big South Conference match to Campbell on the road Wednesday, 6-1.
PC moves to 9-12 on the year and 0-6 in league play. Campbell improves to 10-7 and 2-6.
Paige Oelke gave the Blue Hose their lone win, gutting out a 7-6, 7-6 victory over Karolina Chernaya at the top flight. The win gives Oelke her first Big South singles win of the season and 11th singles win of the year, one shy of the team lead.
The Blue Hose dropped a pair of doubles matches by 8-4 margins. Oelke and Patricia Alves fell to Karolina Chernaya and Borislava Nikolova, while Cara Caruso and Lindsay Krause lost to Tamara Stanic and Katya Yegoreychenko. At the third flight, Lucia Leahy and Caroline deLoach dropped a contest to Natasha Afridi and Anais Gomar, 8-1.
In singles play, Alves gave Nikolova a run at the first set before falling, 7-6, 6-0, at the fourth flight. Caruso stumbled against Afridi at the second flight, 6-1, 6-4, while Greer Ransom suffered a setback to Stanic at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2.
At the fifth flight, deLoach dropped a battle to Yegoreychenko, 6-4, 6-1, and Krause fell to Gomar at the sixth flight, 6-3, 6-4.
PC returns to the courts on Thursday with a road matchup at UNC Asheville. The match is slated for a 2:00pm start.
Coastal Carolina 6, Louisiana-Lafayette 1
Coastal Carolina pushed its home record to 10-2 with a 6-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
After sweeping the doubles matches Coastal proceeded to win five of the six singles matches improving to 14-4 on the year while the Ragin Cajuns dropped to 4-15 on the season.
Amanda Malatek earned the first victory after her opponent retired midway through the opening set. Diana Mortlock posted a 6-2, 6-0 win to give the Chants an early 3-0 lead. Big South Freshman of the Year hopeful Katie Fosnacht clinched the match for the Chants with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tara Vasovic.
Maria Hesketh posted a come from behind win (0-6, 7-6 (3), 10-3) followed by Miki Bunea winning 6-4, 7-5 for Coastal's sixth point of the day.
Coastal returns to the courts on April 11 when they travel to Charleston Southern for its second of four matches scheduled for this week.
