ASHEVILLE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - No. 4 Campbell moved into the semifinals of the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship with a hard-fought 4-1 victory over No. 5 Winthrop Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the tournament that is being held at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

The teams split at No. 1 doubles with the doubles point come down to No. 3 doubles. Campbell's team of Steven Billington and Iwdal August battled hard with Winthrop's team of Liran Levy and Rich Meade.  The Eagles had two match points and led 7-6 before the Camels rallied to win the game.  The match went to a tie-break with Campbell winning 7-4 to grab a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Levy had to retire after the first set to Josep Baro to give the Camels a 2-0 lead at No. 5 flight. Baro won the first set 6-3.  Campbell made it 3-0 when Fernando Guillen downed Guy Kubi at No. 2 flight, 6-0, 6-2.

The fourth and winning point was much for the Camels to get, Meade kept Winthrop alive with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Ondrej Kralik.  Meade trailed in the second set 5-1 but roared back to win the final six games to get the Eagles their lone point.

At No. 4 singles, Steven Billington of Campbell won the first set 6-2 but had to go to a tie-breaker against Dylan Comerford.  Billington seemed to have the tie-breaker in good shape as he led 6-1 needed one point to clinch the win for the Camels. But Comerford fought off four match points to cut the lead to 6-5.  Finally Billington got Comerford to hit a volley into the net to give the Camels the well-earned victory.

The Camels (11-10) will now face top-seeded Radford Friday, April 20 at 10:00am.
