Presbyterian 4, Campbell 3
Padgett Harrington hit her first career home, a two-run shot over the left field wall, to lead the Presbyterian College softball team to a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Campbell in action tonight in Buies Creek, N.C.
PC improved to 19-29 overall and 8-11 in the Big South, while the Camels dropped to 27-27, 10-9.
Campbell came out of the gates swinging, recording three hits in the first five at bats. With one out in the bottom of the first, Campbell hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. Two batters later, Taylor McGee doubled in the runners to make it 2-0 in favor of CU. McGee tried to stretch her double to a triple and was tagged out to end the inning, but not before the damage was done.
The Camels' third and final run came in the third inning after Kerstine Womack opened the inning with a single to short and scored three plays later off a single to right field by Stephanie Jones.
Down 3-0 early, the Blue Hose scored a run in the top of the fourth and fifth to cut the margin to one. Shelby Petik led off the fourth with a walk, and after a walk and a Campbell error, the Blue Hose loaded the bases. Two batters later Rachel Hopper singled to left field to drive in Petik for the first run.
With one out in the fifth inning, Morgan Durham singled to second and, after advancing on another walk by Petik and a single by Leslie Hensley, scored PC's second run when Erin Taylor singled to left.
With a runner on first with one out in the top of the seventh, Harrington came into pinch-hit, and made the most of the opportunity with her two-run home run that pushed the Blue Hose ahead, 4-3.
The Blue Hose retired the Campbell side in the bottom of the seventh to give PC the win.
Leslie Hensley pitched a complete game for the Blue Hose, surrendering three earned runs off eight hits and five strikeouts, to pick up her 10th win (10-14) of the season.
PC recorded 10 hits with one error, while Campbell posted eight hits with two errors.
The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2:00pm.
