CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference will be featured on ESPNU on Sunday, April 19 at 2:00pm as Winthrop travels to Radford to square off in a critical softball contest.  The network will air game the third game of this weekend’s three-game set.  Radford and Winthrop enter the series tied for tops in the Conference with identical 8-1 League records.

Radford, which is 26-11 overall, is led offensively by Leigh Godfrey with a .436 average at the plate.  She is currently the 10th toughest player in America to strikeout and is ranked No. 19 in Division I with 1.02 runs per game.  Nichole Beall and Kristen Shifflett are tied for the team lead with eight home runs.  Chelsea Kelley has been Radford’s go-to pitcher lately as she has 58 stikeouts, 11 wins and a 3.14 ERA on the year.  Radford defeated then No. 25 Mississippi State earlier in the season on March 8.

The Eagles, 19-17 overall, have won their last four consecutive Big South games.  Big South preseason Player of the Year and 2008 NFCA All-American Lisa Kingsmore leads her team at the plate and ranks No. 12 nationally with a .449 batting average.  Led by Tessa Thomas’ seven home runs, Winthrop is currently 20th in the country with 1.0 long balls per game.  Preseason Pitcher of the Year Megan Evans leads the Eagles in the circle with 116 strikeouts, 13 wins and a 3.13 ERA.

The Big South regular-season championship could rest on the series winner, as both teams lead the Conference.  The game marks the third-straight year that Big South softball has been televised on ESPNU.
