NINETY SIX, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Coastal Carolina's Brittany Henderson tied the Big South championship record with a 4-under par 68 Tuesday to move from seventh-place into the individual lead, and the Chanticleers gained three strokes on first round leader Campbell to pull within one shot of the Camels in the 2012 Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting, which is being contested at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor (par 72, 6,009 yards) in Ninety Six, S.C.
First round leader Campbell finished with a 300 on Tuesday and still holds the top spot with a 36-hole score of 594 (294-300) - only one shot ahead of Coastal Carolina (595). The Chanticleers carded a team aggregate score of 297 on Tuesday and is the lone squad to shoot under 300 in both rounds. Host Gardner-Webb is in third-place at 611.
Henderson opened her day with two birdies, five pars and two bogeys in making the turn at even par. She played bogey-free on the back nine with four birdies -- including three-straight to close out her afternoon with a 32 (-4) on the back nine for her 68. Henderson sits at 1-under 143 after two rounds and holds a two stroke lead over Campbell's Kaylin Yost, who is second with a 1-over 145. First round individual leader Michelle Koh (71) posted a 76 on Tuesday to fall to third-place with a 3-over 147. Coastal Carolina's Frida Castillo sits in fourth place following her even-par 72 that gave her a 36-hole total of 148.
Joining Henderson and Castillo among the top scores of the day were Yost and Presbyterian College's Kim Carpenter with a 72, and Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger with a 73. Castillo and Radford's Paige Reese both eagled the par-5, 465-yard No. 18 hole to close out their respective rounds.
Winthrop moved up into fourth-place following its 306 on Tuesday. The Eagles are at 619, five shots ahead of fifth-place Radford (624). Charleston Southern is officially sixth at 630, while associate member Bucknell and High Point are tied for seventh at 631. Associate member Holy Cross is officially ninth at 777. Presbyterian College finished with a 307 in the second round and is at 625 after 36 holes. The Blue Hose's results do not officially count in the individual or team standings due to its transition to Division I.
Campbell, which returned to the Big South this season after 17 years in the Atlantic Sun, is looking for its first Big South Women's Golf championship since winning as members in 1993 and 1994. Final round action begins at 8:30am ET Wednesday, and is free and open to the public. Individual and team results can also be accessed online via GolfStat's "Live Scoring" feature.
