Originally known as the Commissioner's Cup, the Sasser Cup was renamed in 2000 to honor the retiring George F. "Buddy" Sasser, who served as the Conference Commissioner from 1989 to 1996, and as the Director of Athletics at Coastal Carolina from 1986-89 and 1996-00.
