Page and Stokes, become the 37th and 38th player in Liberty history, respectively, to be taken in the MLB draft. Page is the first LU player selected by Toronto and Stokes is the first Flame to be drafted by the Tigers organization. Liberty has now had players taken in every Major League Baseball Draft since 2000.
Evans, who was selected out of high school by the Atlanta Braves before deciding to go to college, became the third Radford Highlander Baseball player to be drafted in the major league draft. He joins Phil Leftwich (1992 by the Angels) and Mark Fleisher (2005 Orioles) as the only Highlanders to be selected in the draft.
DeRatt and Mattison are the first Bulldog tandem to be drafted since Steven Cook (Montreal) and Steve Sherman (St. Louis) where both selected in the 2004 draft. The Bulldogs also had two players, Daniel Pruitt (Oakland) and Jake McConiga (Kansas City) selected in 2003. Asheville had three players taken in the 1998 draft headed by current Houston Astro Ty Wiggington (NY Mets), Marc Ludvigsen (NY Mets) and Shon Norris (Boston) where also selected in the '98 draft. The first year UNC Asheville had two players selected was 1992 with Jamon Deal (Seattle) and Wayne Faircloth (White Sox). DeRatt is the second highest Bulldog player to ever be drafted, as Wigginton was also drafted in the 17th round (514th pick) of the 1998 draft. DeRatt and Mattison are the 17th and 18th players, respectively, to be drafted by an MLB club.
Bowman and Roberts -- both selected by the Brewers -- become the first Keydet juniors to be drafted since Ryan Glynn was taken in the fourth round of the 1995 draft. Along with Barham, it marks only the second time in school history that three players have been drafted in the same year. In 2003, Jeremy Harper, Andy Barden and Phil Hendrix were each drafted, with Hendrix going to the Brewers.
