NINETY SIX, S.C. – Coastal Carolina posted an even par team aggregate score of 288 Tuesday in the final round of the 2008 Big South Men’s Golf Championship to win its fifth consecutive Conference title and 10th crown in 12 years.  The Chanticleers finished with a 54-hole total of 874, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Charleston Southern, which rallied to finish second with an 890.  Radford dropped to third-place at 891 in the event contested at the 7,079-yard, par 72 Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.  Coastal Carolina freshman David Dannelly captured medalist honors with a 2-under par 214, as he finished the day with a 1-under 71.

Dannelly was one of seven players to shot below par Tuesday.  Charleston Southern’s Kelvin Day, who tied Thomas Todd of future Big South member Presbyterian and Radford’s Nick Little for the lowest round of the tournament with a 69, finished as the official runner-up at 2-over 218.  Day and teammates Herve Gevers (71), Justin Martinson (73) and Ben Rowe (73) led the Buccaneers to a 2-under team aggregate score of 286 in the final round to push Charleston Southern into second-place.  Todd finished the tournament with an even-par 216, but was not eligible for runner-up honors as Presbyterian is transitioning to Division I and does not count in the final individual and team standings.

Day and Todd posted four birdies on the front nine and six total birdies during their rounds Tuesday, while Little had four birdies in the final round.  Other individual highlights Tuesday included three eagles.  Gevers eagled the 363-yard, par 4 No. 6 hole, Presbyterian’s Kent Crymes eagled the 558-yard, par 5 No. 13 and Dannelly eagled the 560-yard, par 5 No. 5 hole.  Coastal Carolina’s Cameron Hooper carded a 32 (-4) on the front nine to finish with a 70 for the Chanticleers.  High Point’s Nick Goins also finished under par on the day with a 70, including five birdies.

With the team title, Coastal Carolina receives the Big South Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional.  Dannelly, Day, Gevers, Radford’s Chris Dillow and Coastal’s Lindsay Renolds earned a spot on the Big South All-Conference team with their Championship finish, joining Little, Hampton Ballard, Tripp McAllister, Dan Obremski and Nathan Schenz-Davis, who were voted to the team based on regular-season play.  Below are the final team scores and top 10 individual results:
