EARLYSVILLE, Va. - Junior Jessica Gass led a partial Liberty women's cross country squad with her 28th-place finish at Saturday morning's Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Her effort helped the Lady Flames finish fifth out of eight teams.

Liberty totaled 136 points for its fifth-place showing in a strong field. Wisconsin took home the victory with 35 points, putting the Badgers 12 points in front of runner-up Kentucky.

Gass finished the challenging 5K course at Panorama Farms in 20:14.3, putting her 11.7 seconds and one place in front of teammate Caroline Parris.

Senior Lyndi Fielitz was next to cross the line for the Lady Flames, notching a time of 20:49.1 for 31st place. Making her collegiate cross country 5K debut, Stephanie Buda finished 33rd in 21:08.6, despite making a wrong turn late in the race that cost her valuable time and places.

Mary Cate Cooper's 21:25.1 effort for 35th place made her the Lady Flames' No. 5 runner on the day. Fellow sophomore Caitlin Spinks rounded out Liberty's half-dozen entrants, stopping the clock in 23:21.5 for the 46th position.

Liberty's top men's and women's cross country runners will next compete in Friday's Notre Dame Invitational. The meet will begin at 2 p.m. at the Notre Dame Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.
