CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Liberty midfielder/defender Lauren Stell has been tabbed the Big South Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while Radford defender Sydney Golden was named the Big South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played Aug. 27-Sept. 2, the League announced today.
Stell, a senior from Exton, Pa., posted a pair of game-winning goals to lead Liberty to a 2-0 record last week. Against American on Aug. 31, she lit up the scoreboard in the 69th minute as she pounded in a loose ball off a corner kick. Two days later against Old Dominion, Stell converted a penalty kick in the 58th minute to lead the Lady Flames to the 1-0 win, their first-ever win over the Monarchs. The honor is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Golden, a junior from Lexington, Ky., played an integral part in helping Radford to a 2-0 weekend. Her presence as a central defender limited Old Dominion and Delaware State to just one combined goal, 12 shots and seven shots on goal. She stuffed several runs by both opponents as the Highlanders shut out Delaware State and limited ODU to one goal. She also assisted on the game-winner against the Monarchs and her corner kick service played a key role in the game-winner against the Hornets. The honor marks her first Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
