Liberty 7, Morgan State 0

Playing a match which was announced on Monday morning, the Liberty women's tennis team rose to the challenge, defeating Morgan State, 7-0, at the Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

The Lady Flames win their third straight match and sixth out of their last seven to improve to 7-10 this season.  Meanwhile, Morgan State falls to 3-7.

With the Bears defaulting the No. 3 doubles match at the start, the Lady Flames quickly claimed the opening point behind an 8-2 win from Florida natives, Annisha Domenech and Nicola Wellman in the No. 2 contest.  Cameron Richard and Brittany Yang also posted an 8-2 win, taking the lead match from Arina Alilueva and Margarita Belyakova.

The Lady Flames continued to roll in singles play, beginning with another Morgan State default in the final match.

With the 2-0 lead, Carol Lobel and Jessie Boda each breezed through their No. 4 and No. 5 matches.  Lobel downed Stephanie Henry, 6-0, 6-1, while Boda blanked Tiffany Hughes, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the match, 4-0.

Richard bounced back from a slim deficit in the opening set of the No. 1 match, finding her stride to win in straight sets.  The sophomore downed Belyakova, 6-4, 6-2, for her fifth straight singles win.

Wellman notched the next point for Liberty.  The freshman took a tightly contested opening set, 7-5, before outhitting Jasmine Edwards in the final set, 6-1, for the win.

In the No. 2 match, Yang edged Alilueva in a third-set breaker.  Liberty's freshman took the opening set, 6-2, but dropped the second 6-4.  However, Yang closed out the contest in the ten-point breaker, 10-5, to complete the Lady Flames' sweep.

Liberty hits the courts tomorrow for their third match in as many days, as they look to knock off Radford for a road Big South victory.  The match is slated to begin at 2:30pm.
