CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Campbell forward Ashley Clark has been tabbed the Big South Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week, while teammate Taylor Brown was named the Big South Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played the first week of the season, the League announced today.
Clark, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., put in the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Camels the 2-1 win over East Carolina on Aug. 17. Four minutes into the first overtime period, Clark received a cross from Kirsty Meyer and buried the ball into the left side of the goal. She finished the game with six shots, including two on frame. The honor marks her first Big South Player of the Week nod this season.
Brown, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., anchored a defense to hold the Pirates to just one goal in the contest. Her play in the backfield helped the defense to allow just three shots on goal. She also chipped in on the offensive side as she put in a goal on a direct free kick early in the contest. The honor is her first Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
