Coastal Carolina 7, UNC Asheville 0
The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team concluded its regular-season schedule with a 7-0 win against UNC Asheville Saturday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
After sweeping the doubles point, Coastal (16-5, 6-2) won all singles matches en route to its seventh shutout victory of the year on Senior Day.
Amanda Malatek won from the sixth flight followed by wins from Diana Mortlock (6-1, 6-1), Kourtney Kowal (6-0, 6-1), Katie Fosnacht (6-0, 6-0), Miki Bunea (6-1, 6-2) and Mikaela Kristofersson (6-3, 6-2).
Seniors Mortlock and Bunea were honored before the match for their accomplishments as student-athletes at Coastal Carolina.
Coastal and Asheville's next matches will be played in Asheville, N.C. in the first round of the Big South Conference Tournament.
Charleston Southern 8, Shaw 1
The Charleston Southern tennis team capped off a memorable regular season with an 8-1 win over Shaw on Saturday afternoon. CSU (15-3, 7-1) now enters the Big South Tournament on a six-match winning streak.
The Bucs had their way with a Bears team which entered 22-0 against Division II competition, taking eight of the nine matches on the day. Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters set the tone at number one doubles by cruising to an 8-1 victory, while Olga Makhova and Susita Das, and Angelica Sidorenko and Alia Nour, captured wins out of the two and three spots.
Singles play proved to be a breeze for CSU as well, as it posted straight set triumphs in five of the six matchups. Alia Nour capped a brilliant end to the regular season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four singles, and has now emerged the victor in each of her last 13 matches. Hubler ran her personal winning streak to six, while Makhova took her fifth straight win in the final regular season match of her career.
CSU will now shift its focus toward preparing for the Big South Tournament at UNC Asheville, April 19-21.
