CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Coastal Carolina sophomore Leo Christofides (Nicosia, Cyprus) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Winthrop's Dylan Comerford (Johannesburg, South Africa) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played Jan. 23-29, it was announced today by the League office.
Christofides finished the weekend 2-0 in singles play at the No. 2 position while helping the Chanticleers to wins over The Citadel and Mercer. Against The Citadel on Jan. 28, the sophomore defeated Peter Bleach (7-5, 6-2) to help Coastal Carolina to a 6-1 win. The next day vs. Mercer, Christofides defeated David Barton, 6-2, 6-2.
Comerford earned two wins in both doubles and singles in wins over USC Lancaster and Wofford last weekend. In the match vs. USC Lancaster, Comerford teamed up with Rich Meade in the No. 3 doubles spot to beat Justin Lewis and Matthew Canelon (8-3), before defeating Dave Fosnacht in No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-3). Against Wofford, Comerford and Meade knocked off Jack Seiffert and Tom Wood (8-2) in No. 3 doubles. Comerford then followed that up by topping Wood in No. 5 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
